A Central Islip woman accused of strangling her mother with a vacuum cleaner cord pleaded not guilty Thursday.
Police say Sharon Easter called 911 last week and told the operator she killed her mom.
Police found 76-year-old Dorothy Easter dead.
Neighbors on Cocoanut Street say Sharon appeared to suffer from a mental illness and that police were called to the house several times over the years.
Easter is being held without bail. She's due back in court in August.
