A Suffolk police officer was hailed as a hero for running into a burning home to save three dogs in Rocky Point.
Officer Matthew Ingui saw flames coming from the bottom floor of a home on Magnolia Drive on Sunday. He said a neighbor told him no one was home at the time of the fire, but there were three dogs inside the home.
“I saw them through the window, so then I ran to another window. I popped the screen out, I crawled in there, and started taking the dogs out the window,” Ingui said. “The neighbor helped me grab them."
Even though he said it was difficult to breathe at one point, he had one thing on his mind.
"The only thing was really just to get the dogs out to be honest with you,” he said.
Officer Ingui told News 12 the homeowner was very grateful for his quick actions and says the pups are OK.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
