A man shot and seriously injured a woman Saturday at a home in Ridge before killing himself, Suffolk police say.
Police responded to 28 Woodbrook Drive just before 1 p.m. for an incident involving a gun after receiving a call from the home.
Responding officers had Woodbrook Drive closed off for hours during a standoff.
Suffolk police say they found a 68-year-old woman who was shot twice. She was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police say 66-year-old Gerard Senatore then barricaded himself inside the house.
News 12 cameras were rolling as police took a window off of the house.
They say they went inside to find Senatore dead from a self-inflicted gunshot.
"It's scary, I mean this is such a quiet neighborhood everyone's so friendly and it's shocking," said resident Jaime Ruiz.
Some neighbors told News 12 the man and woman were married.
Sources say Senatore was a former Suffolk Corrections officer.
Police have not released the identity of the female victim who was in the hospital with serious injuries as of Saturday night.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
