Suffolk officials are fighting for pay equity in the county.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone introduced the RISE Act on Tuesday. The bill would ban employers in Suffolk from asking perspective employees what salary they earned at their previous jobs.
"If we take salary history off the table and reshape pay negotiations to focus on an applicant’s experience, qualifications and the responsibilities of the new position, we can level the playing field and ensure that everyone has a chance to be paid fairly," says Bellone.
Officials say the measure is intended to shrink the wage gap in the county.
