A Suffolk judge blocked a vote on Monday on a Democratic proposal to redraw the county's district lines.
The judge said the plan would violate the county charter that says a bi-partisan commission handles re-districting.
If that commission approves the plan, a vote would be allowed to happen.
The Legislature could also enact its own redistricting plan after Feb. 1, which is the deadline for the commission to draw proposed district lines.
