The gun and bow-hunting season in Suffolk County has been extended.
The season will now stretch through the end of next month, and includes weekends.
It's part of a state effort to reduce the deer population on the East End. It's estimated some 30,000 deer call eastern Suffolk County home.
Some communities, including East Hampton, have gone a step further by taking other measures to reduce the deer population. East Hampton village officials have hired a nonprofit group to capture and surgically sterilize does beginning next month.
