Local leaders hosted a police promotion ceremony Friday at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood.

The event honored around 200 people who have been promoted since 2022.

Chief of Detectives Darrel Simmons and Assistant Chief Milagros Soto were among those recognized at the ceremony.

Soto is the highest-ranking female in the department’s history.
