(10/31/06) CENTRAL ISLIP - In separate incidents, two Suffolk women were arrested this week for driving drunk with their children in the car.
Nicole Grammerstorf, 23, was arrested Sunday on DWI charges. Police say the Deer Park mother's 5-month-old son was in the car at the time. According to police, 39-year-old Nicole Petterson, of East Moriches, crashed her car twice while intoxicated the next day. They say Petterson even fled the scene of the first incident before crashing again. Officers say they found Petterson's 5-year-old son in the back seat. Petterson is being held on $2,000 bail and is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, among other charges.
The state Senate passed a bill earlier this year that would increase the penalty for DWI when a child is present in the car. The Assembly has yet to vote on the bill.
