Struck fire hydrant causes flooding, partial road collapse in Riverhead

According to Riverhead police, the flooding was brought on by a vehicle that struck a fire hydrant around 6:40 a.m. Police and the water department are on the scene.

The eastbound lanes of Old Country Road in Riverhead are expected to be closed “for an extended period” due to a partial roadway collapse brought on by flooding.
According to Riverhead police, the flooding was brought on by a vehicle that struck a fire hydrant around 6:40 a.m. Police and the water department are on the scene.
“Access to the shopping center at 739 Old Country is available from Oliver St. and Ostrander Ave.,” said a press release issued by the police department.
