A Suffolk County judge has granted a bail application for a woman who was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of her boyfriend.

A bail application was approved for Ashley Guimont. The 44-year-old is expected to be released on $50,000 bail.

As News 12 has reported, Guimont has been in jail since she was charged in the July 4 murderof her boyfriend, Alex Carter, in their Coram home. Guimont claims she acted in self-defense because she was being strangled.

“The evidence so far that's being reviewed is consistent with the version of events we believe happened," said Guimont’s attorney, Michael Alber. "There is an overwhelming amount of support for Ms. Guimont in the community. Our investigation has revealed there was a significant pattern of domestic violence committed against others by Mr. Carter. We maintain that Ms. Guimont should not have been charged and while the investigation is ongoing, we appreciated the DA's office review and consent with respect to the bail application made We look forward to having Ms. Guimont exonerated on the charges she faces.”

News 12 has reached out to the Suffolk district attorney for comment and is waiting to hear back.
