A stranger from Florida helped out a Long Island mom who was in search of an Xbox for her son with a rare genetic disease, and all he's asking in return is for her to pay it forward.
The most popular holiday gifts can sometimes be impossible to get in time for the big day. For one Woodbury mom, she had to find the right gaming console to fit the handicap accessible equipment she bought for her teenage son, who has a rare genetic disease.
Jill Biblow says the Xbox she wanted to get her son Jake was sold out everywhere.
She took a chance and posted on Facebook about her frustrating search to see if anyone could help her find one.
In one day, she got a response from Commack man who reached out to one his friends in the restaurant business in South Florida. That person found the Xbox and bought it.
Biblow says when she reached out to see how to get him the money, that's when she got a response that she can still hardly believe.
"'I think you misunderstood Jill, I purchased the Xbox for you. There was one left I was able to get and I didn't want you to lose it. And I'd like to, I got it for you,' and I said immediately, 'I'll Venmo you, how much? I'll pay for shipping, whatever you need' and he said to me, 'no, no, no' and that's when he sent me that message, 'the Xbox is on me,'" said Biblow.
The restaurant owner requested that Biblow pay his kindness forward by supporting local restaurants that have been financially struggling due to the pandemic.
"It's been a hard year. I can't say I've always been positive this year, been at my best, a lot of the times I felt like I was failing, so this was kind of an opportunity to do something that we could do right, so it felt good," said Kevin Danilo, from Miami.
Biblow says she and her family started paying it forward immediately. She says they started ordering in and over tipping and once it's safe to go out, she says they're going to head to their favorite restaurant in Huntington.
Jake's 19th birthday is on Christmas Eve.
