A Suffolk Police Department weekend sting operation caught several stores selling alcohol and tobacco to minors.
Underage volunteers were sent into 21 stores to purchase the age-restricted products. Some stores were chosen randomly, while others were targeted based on community complaints.
"People who are selling tobacco and booze to our kids surely don't care about our kids," said anti-drunk driving activist Marge Lee. "Part of the problem is the fines are just a matter of doing business because the state liquor authority has been undermanned for so many years, there's really no teeth."
