A statewide burn ban is in effect through Nov. 30 as firefighters continue battling the Jennings Creek wildfire.

Fire and local officials say they are in better shape today than yesterday in regards to the wildfire. The winds are dying down a bit which will help crews advance but unfortunately conditions remain extremely dry.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus explains the fire tends to advance a bit at night but they have been able to push it back.

Neuhaus says military helicopters have been a tremendous help fighting the fires by dumping water on hard to reach terrain. Bigger helicopters are expected in tomorrow that have the ability to drop large amounts of water onto the fire.

Greenwood Lake officials say crews will likely perform controlled burns today which will create more smoke in the area.

There are still no orders for mandatory evacuations although some people have voluntarily left their homes due to heavy smoke conditions.
