State Sen. Steve Rhoads is calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul to support legislation that would make it illegal to hide one’s identity at rallies or protests and add an aggravated charge if a mask is worn while committing a crime.
This comes after six masked men were accused of
slashing two people Wednesday on Hofstra University’s campus.
Rhoads says New York had restrictions and penalties related to wearing masks up until May 2020. The rules were changed due to COVID-19.
The legislation would still permit the use of masks for religious reasons and medical conditions.
News 12 is waiting to hear back from Hochul for comment.
