Police say six people were charged and arraigned for a slashing at the Hofstra University campus.
The incident happened Wednesday just as the Academy Charter Schools of Hempstead and Uniondale wrapped up its graduation ceremony.
A spokesperson for the school says an adult guest was slashed in the leg. An 18-year-old graduate tried to break things up and ended up being slashed near the ear, the spokesperson said.
Both were taken to the hospital.
Isaiah Moore, Devon Moore, Taiwan Jackson, Unique Pruitt, Devon Fenner and Zachariah Fulton were charged with attempted gang assault and criminal possession of a weapon. They are all being held on bail.
The prosecution claims that the attack was pre-planned and that there is video of it.
Meanwhile, the school says security has been increased at their buildings and other graduations taking place this week.
“We are happy our kids are being promoted and elevated to another level, but we have to do something about the community safety,” says chief development officer of The Academy Charter School Wayne Haughton. “And we are more than willing to partner with anybody who is willing to help us to bridge the gap.”
