The surge in omicron cases coupled with the busy holiday season is fueling a mad rush to get tested.
Starting next week, new state-run testing sites will open — including one in Nassau.
There will be an online portal where individuals can order at-home PCR tests.
The Suffolk Health commissioner says he's been talking with state officials about making more tests available.
Meanwhile, Nassau County Executive-elect Bruce Blakeman is calling on the state to make more at-home test kits available immediately.
Blakeman also appeared on FOX News Monday night saying he will not enforce the governor's mask mandate.
"Using good common sense and discussing it with our health care professionals, I have determined that I am not going to enforce the mask mandate because it's not necessary. We are not in crisis in Nassau County," says Blakeman.
Long Island continues to have the highest positivity rate in the state. The seven-day positivity rate rose nearly 10% - jumping to 9.84%. That number is up from 9.32% on Saturday. There was a total of 3,643 new cases reported on Long Island on Monday.
