Domestic violence is on the rise across New York, according to the state.
On Wednesday, the secretary to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Council on Women and Girls launched a task force to find solutions to the crisis.
Domestic violence reports statewide increased 30% in April compared to the same time last year.
Keith Scott with Safe Center LI says raising awareness is part of the solution:
"We're seeing things in our communities that we don't normally see, maybe hearing neighbors fight more, maybe we're seeing children act a certain way, so it's really on the community as well to reach out to law enforcement," says Scott.
The task force will make recommendations to Gov. Cuomo by next Thursday.
