Suffolk District Attorney Tom Spota is conducting an investigation into possible school corruption in each of the county?s 70 school districts.
A special grand jury, auditors, investigators and prosecutors have been working for a year, inspecting thousands of documents to measure financial mismanagement in Suffolk schools. State lawmakers have come up with a $300,000 grant to subsidize the DA?s work and are also demanding an accounting of state aid to county schools.
The grand jury has already indicted four school officials in three districts. Spota says it will be up to a judge to decide if the results of the investigation are made public in a report.
