One of New Jersey’s newest residents couldn’t wait to meet his family, causing quite the stir at the Lincoln Tunnel toll plaza during Monday’s morning rush hour.

Port Authority Police Officer Timothy Jozefczyk says that Monday started as any normal day.

“I was parked near the Exit 10 of the Lincoln Tunnel on the Jersey side,” he says.

But then he heard his sergeant on the radio saying that there was a woman in labor at the toll plaza.

“I got there in less than a minute,” Jozefczyk says. “I get out of my car and I see the soon-to-be-father waving his hands to me telling me to come over here. So I started running to the car, grabbed my gloves just in case the baby is coming.”

He says that once he approached the car, he saw the mother in the passenger seat and the top of the baby’s head.

“I am saying to myself, ‘This is actually happening,’” Jozefczyk says. “I remember telling the father to tell the mother to keep on pushing and I got down and I started to support the head and she kept on pushing and the baby came into this world.”

Baby boy Kylian Aaron Guallpa Castano was born at 8:52 a.m., weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces.

“It was a good 10 seconds and I’m saying to myself, ‘Please cry.’ It is nerve-wracking. Those 10 seconds felt like a minute and once the baby started crying, it was a sigh of relief,” Jozefczyk says.

Shortly after, Officer Evan Butts came by to assist. EMTs also arrived and the mother, Maria Marin, and baby Kylian were taken to the hospital.

“We are so happy that we got help from the police,” father Nestor Guallpa wrote in a statement. “We are so grateful that they were there and that everyone is healthy. Seeing the officers work carefully and knew what they were doing was amazing. They’re our heroes. It was like something out of a movie, and I will never forget this experience.”

And how does Jozefczyk feel knowing he brought a baby into the world?

“Amazing. It’s definitely a joy that I made a difference in someone’s life. Multiple people’s lives,” he says.

Port Authority police say that Jozefczyk has been a police officer for nine years. This was his first time holding a newborn and his first time helping to deliver one.
