The Lewis Barn at Old Bethpage Village Restoration was slated to be torn down because of excessive termite damage, a source confirms to News 12.
Hallowed support beams, crumbling lumber and missing planks are just some of the problems the historical structure currently has.
The Lewis Barn, also known as the Ritch Barn, originally stood in Setauket. It was built in 1788 and eventually moved to Old Bethpage Village Restoration at some point in the 60s or 70s.
According to a source, Old Bethpage Village Restoration worked hard to try to save it, but the "powers that be" made the decision to tear it down.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman released a statement saying,“The county has no plan to demolish the barn. In fact, my administration is seeking to restore it to its former glory.”
