Snow batters residents weary of winter

With Nassau receiving the worst end of Wednesday's nor'easter, schools canceled classes and many residents decided to stay home.
The storm started off slow, and Marzena Pfeiffer of Glen Head said she was expecting much worse.
"We looked out the window, and there was no snow," she said. "What's going on? The kids are home, and we have to take off from work."
But by mid-afternoon the snow began to stick, piling up on cars and forming pools of slush in the streets.
Nassau police said they'd responded to at least 30 accidents before the evening commute even began.
County Executive Laura Curran warned drivers to continue to be careful and avoid unnecessary travel.
She also said more than 300 people had no power, although some of them may have initially lost it in last week's storm.
