Smithtown residents hail efforts to make Main Street safer

Residents say efforts to make a dangerous Smithtown street safer seem to be working. It has been three months since the New York Department of Transportation (DOT) made changes to Main Street after three pedestrians, including an 11-year-old girl, were killed in a year-and-a-half. The DOT narrowed traffic lanes from four to three and added a left turning lane, which has slowed down traffic. Pedestrians and drivers have noticed the difference, but traffic safety advocates say there's still more work to be done.Safety improvement construction to begin in SmithtownSmithtown residents demand changes to deadly roadway
