Several Hudson Valley schools vote to pierce state tax cap in budget votes

3h agoSeveral Hudson Valley schools voted to pierce the state tax cap in budget votes on Tuesday.
Rye, Harrison, and Scarsdale, Chappaqua are among districts where voters were asked to pay more than what the state tax cap allows.
The state caps how much school districts can increase property taxes.
For the third year in a row, the cap has been set at 2%.
In order to go above the state tax cap, a district requires 60% of votes to be adopted.
Officials from Rye said their budget passed 969-383.
That means around 71% of voters supported the budget, which allows them to go above the tax cap.
People in Harrison and Scarsdale also voted to approved their budget Tuesday night.
Both districts recieved around 67% of yes votes.
This percentage also allows their schools systems to go about the tax cap, too.
Chappaqua Central School district's budget was defeated Tuesday night with a vote of 1,128-2,006.
