Ryan McCaffery, a former Riverhead teacher, had nothing to say to News 12 after his Monday arraignment.
The Ridge man is accused of sending nude photos and sexually inappropriate videos to victims under the age of 14.
Authorities say he posed as a teenager in order to trick kids into sending illicit photos.
Court documents say in one instance, he continuously “asked the female to perform sexual acts and was very persistent.”
McCaffery, who pleaded not guilty, was let out on supervised release, though prosecutors wanted the judge to set cash bail at $100,000.
In a letter to parents, Riverhead Central School District Interim Superintendent Cheryl Pedisich said, “The district has spoken with New York law enforcement, and we have again been informed that there is no current evidence that any of the alleged New York charges are related” to the defendant’s prior work as a teacher in the district, or any interactions he may have had with any students in his classes or any other child enrolled in the district.
