Two out and two in: a busy day for the Selden Fire Department after two of its fire commissioners resigned.
James Spatafora and Joseph Parente handed in letters of resignation Friday. Both were arrested Tuesday, accused of spending $52,000 of taxpayers money on themselves.
Timothy Turner and Charles Mazzarese were appointed as fire commissioners. The pair was sworn in at the Selden fire house in the evening and will serve until December, when an election will be held.
Five other former and current Suffolk fire officials, as well as the president of the East Moriches Ambulance Company, were arrested on similar charges as Spatafora and Parente.
Prison time is not expected, but Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Spatafora and Parente will have to pay restitution.
