Santos bows out of independent run for NY's 1st Congressional District

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Santos says he did not want to "split the ticket" and be responsible for having Democrats control the House of Representatives.

Former Rep. George Santos announced Tuesday that he is withdrawing from his independent run for New York's 1st Congressional District.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Santos says he did not want to "split the ticket" and be responsible for having Democrats control the House of Representatives.

Rep. Nick LaLota is currently the representative for the district that covers eastern Long Island.

Rep. Tom Suozzi won a special election for the seat that Santos held before he was ousted from Congress.
