Three unleashed rottweilers ripped off a man's ear during a vicious attack in Dix Hills, the victim's mother said Monday.
Kathy Neiderman said her 22-year-old son, Joe Mortensen, was walking with his friend, Christopher Green, of Lake Ronkonkoma, and Green's dog in a field Sunday. According to Neiderman, Green's dog was on a leash.
Neighbors said they could hear Mortensen's screams as three rottweilers, which belong to Jim Mazzone, bit Green on the hand and went after Mortensen's face. Neiderman said her son underwent emergency surgery in an attempt to reattach his ear late Sunday night.
This is not the first time Mazzone's rottweilers have acted out, neighbor Peter Perez said. Perez said he was bitten on the arm about a month ago.
However, the dogs are still at home. Bruce Richard, who spoke on behalf of the Town of Huntington, said the town can't do anything until somebody files an official complaint. Neighbors and Neiderman said they plan to file dangerous dog complaints immediately.
