LIPA's search for a new power grid manager is over, at least for now.
The power authority's Board of Trustees voted to cancel the year-long selection process, and begin negotiating with PSEG Long Island for an extension of their current contract.
This comes a month after the Board rejected a LIPA committee recommendation to go with Quanta Services to manage the grid, a move former board members called "unprecedented."
In a statement to News 12, a PSEG Long Island spokesperson says, "PSEG Long Island is looking forward to the discussion to extend its partnership with LIPA. Our goal is to continue to bring customers on Long Island and the Rockaways best-in-class safe and reliable electric service."
No timetable for the negotiation process was given.
