A Rocky Point man is accused of renting out a home he didn't own.

Justin Campos, 22, listed a home for rent located on Applegate Drive in Mastic on Facebook Marketplace to a woman who sent $2,300 through the banking app Zelle to rent the property, according to officials.

The woman realized the property was still listed online after sending the money and asked a family member to contact Campos about whether the property was still available, who confirmed it was.

The victim's family member then met Campos at the property and stalled until Suffolk police arrested him, according to Chief of Detectives John Rowan.

It's still unknown how Campos knew about the property. Suffolk police are investigating.

Police ask anyone who suspects they are a victim of Campos to contact the 7th Squad Detectives at 631-852-8752.
