Retired FDNY captain from Dix Hills dies from 9/11-related cancer

A final farewell will start this weekend for a retired firefighter from Long Island who passed away from 9/11-related cancer.
Former FDNY captain and Dix Hills native Michael Lyons died on Tuesday.
Lyons started at Engine 228 and worked his way up to captain at Ladder 30 Manhattan and Bronx Division 15.
Lyons was an advocate for cancer prevention and awareness and nutrition.
A wake for Lyons is being held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at M.A. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington Station.
