If you are driving on the East End – officials say to watch out for turtles.
A record number of turtles have been killed on North Fork roads this spring, according to Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons.
They say turtles are waking up from their hibernation and are being hit by cars while crossing roads.
The rescue group says the turtles are on the move to find food and lay eggs. However, 36 of them were found dead or had to be put down because of injuries in a week.
Anyone that sees an injured turtle is urged to contact the rescue or bring it to the nearest animal shelter.
