Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney was among several members of Congress who were arrested Tuesday during an abortion rights rally outside the United States Supreme Court.
The congresswoman and others were protesting the court's decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision, which had stated the right to have an abortion was protected under the Constitution.
Upon her arrest, Maloney stated in part, "There is no democracy if women do not have control over their own bodies and decisions about their own health, including reproductive care."
Democrats in the House of Representatives passed legislation on Friday to protect a person's right to choose to have an abortion.
