Relief efforts underway in Hempstead, North Hempstead to support Haiti following 7.2-magnitude earthquake

Senat tells News 12 she is hoping that people outside of Haiti will do what they can to help those on the island nation that was already struggling before Saturday's quake.

Community members on Long Island are searching for loved ones in Haiti following a 7.2-magnitude earthquake that left over at least 1,400 people dead. 
Marie Senat, of Suffolk County, says she spent three days hoping, crying and searching online for any word about her family in Les Cayes, Haiti. 
Senat tells News 12 she is hoping that people outside of Haiti will do what they can to help those on the island nation that was already struggling before Saturday's quake.
Senat, who came to the U.S. from Haiti when she was a teenager, is also a registered nurse and business owner.
She says after days of silence, she did hear from a family member.
The Town of Hempstead has opened a supply drive to help people in Haiti. 
Town officials say those who are interested in donating money should donate directly to trusted organizations like UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders and Save the Children.
The town supervisor for North Hempstead says they will also be coordinating a donation drive and relief effort for people impacted by the earthquake.
