A 38-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly led a child out the back of a laundromat and took her to the Patchogue-Medford Library’s children’s play area.

Police say a mother was at the Laundry Kingdom on East Main St. in Patchogue with her two children when she noticed her 4-year-old daughter was missing around noon.

Officers responded to the scene, reviewed surveillance video and began canvassing the area.

While police were searching, the mother spotted her daughter in the library’s children’s play area, and the two were reunited.

A patrol officer later located the suspect, Carlos Corte, of Patchogue, near the laundromat, and he was taken into custody.

Corte is charged with kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child and an outstanding warrant.

He was arraigned on Sunday.
