Residents packed Islandia Village Hall Tuesday evening for a public hearing on a proposed mini-casino at the Islandia Marriott Hotel.
Officials say the Suffolk Off-Track Betting parlor would be open to the public every day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It would have up to 1,000 video slot machines, show racing simulcasts and sell food and drinks.
Residents both for and against the proposal voiced their opinions during the meeting. Some say they're worried about the increased traffic the parlor would bring, while other residents say it would be a boon for the area.
The Islandia Village Board says it will vote on the proposal at its meeting next Tuesday.
