Long Islanders helped feed their neighbors on Friday.
PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest hosted their fourth
“Power to Feed” food drive of the summer.
Island Harvest says food donations are critical during summer months – when donations decline but the need goes up for children who are out of school.
The organization estimates hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders are dealing with food insecurity, citing the pandemic and inflation as causes.
Food pantries are currently in need of nonperishable items including canned goods, pasta and cereal. Personal items like soap, shampoo and feminine products are also being collected along with baby and pet items.
The event took place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stop & Shop on Pond Path in South Setauket.
