Viewers have told us that the Long Island Expressway between exits 53 and 63 is a pothole nightmare, so Thunderbolt 12 went to check things out.
On Monday, Cristobal Benitez was traveling on the LIE near Exit 63 when his car slammed into a crater of a pothole.
"I felt like Godzilla swallowed it," he says.
Benitez says he lost two front tires and rims, which equated to a price tag of $1,300. To add insult to injury, he had to use money he was saving up for his daughter's wedding next month.
He says he got so aggravated with the Department of Transportation, he wrote a rap, with lines like, "The road to success is always under construction, but if you drive the 495, the road is destruction."
Hundreds of viewers who posted on News 12's Facebook page agree that the potholes are everywhere, destroying tires all across Long Island.
After viewers alerted us to the trouble section near Exit 62, crews were seen patching potholes Friday. The state DOT says it has had crews out all day long working as fast as they can to patch things up.
