In the spirit of Thanksgiving, a restaurant in Port Jefferson gave out free meals to the community.
The Steam Room took a break from its usual seafood offerings and served up Turkey dinners from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The 500 Thanksgiving meals were donated by the Dicarlo food supplier, one of the Steam Room’s main food distributors.
Patrons were thrilled by their generosity.
"Not everybody has a place to go to have a nice decent dinner, share and give thanks. That's good they have a place like this to offer. Hopefully, other restaurants may copycat them and do the same," said Sonia Fischer of Setauket.
Vinny Ceider, the restaurant’s general manager, says they want to help their community.
"We all take things for granted sometimes… You have to give a little something back,” he said. “Whether it's just your time, your financial donations, a little bit of food, or a warm, friendly place for people to come hang out for a little while."
All the leftovers are going to be donated to local food pantries. Ceider also plans to continue the tradition and give out Thanksgiving meals next year.
