Melissa McMullen, a Long Island mother of four and a teacher at JFK Middle School in Port Jeff Station, also has her hands full with 42 kids in Haiti.

As a director of the Haitian school 'Wings over Haiti' in Croix des Bouquets, McMullen is determined to give her students in Haiti and back home on the Island an opportunity to learn from each other.

That circle began when Melissa read about Jonathon Glynn, the founder of Wings Over Haiti. She contacted him and asked if he would bring supplies to Haiti collected by her Long Island students. Glynn agreed as long as she would come down as well -- and now McMullen travels once a month to Haiti to meet with teachers and students.

McMullen's students at JFK Middle School play a pivotal role supporting the Haitian school. They have shipped 1.5 tons of shoes and toiletries down after the earthquake, ordered a satellite dish for the school's roof, and they also order the uniforms the kids wear.
