The Popcorn Park Animal Refuge in Forked River announced that a beloved baboon named Legolas has died. He was in his late-30s.

“While he had recently showed signs of aging, Legolas embraced life to the fullest until his final day,” the zoo posted on Facebook.

The post stated that the baboon died peacefully with his brother Gandalf by his side.

“Gandalf is understandably saddened by his passing, but we are providing him with extra care and attention during this difficult time,” the zoo posted.

Refuge officials say that in Legolas’ final days, he enjoyed eating pumpkins and playing with his new mirrored sensory toy.
