A Bohemia woman was arraigned Tuesday after police say she stole money from a Sayville church's collection boxes.
According to the business manager at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church, an average of about $600 per week was stolen over the past three or four weeks.
Police say Jennie Lecker, 36, managed to steal from the poor boxes and candle collections. Officials say Lecker did not work for the church and was not a regular parishioner.
Police reviewed surveillance video that showed a blonde woman stealing the cash. On Monday, a police officer from the Fifth Precinct was inside the church investigating when Lecker returned. She was then placed under arrest.

Police say Lecker told them that she stole the money because she "needed it."
She was held on more than $21,000 bond at her arraignment.
