Southold police officers and a wildlife rehabilitator rescued a fawn separated from its mother on Wednesday.
Police say they received a call reporting the animal was spotted alone near Main Road. Responding officers called in Public Safety Dispatcher Tracey Carragher, a certified NYS DEC wildlife rehabilitator, for assistance.
She arrived at the scene and determined that the fawn’s mother was no longer in the area. Police say she removed the fawn and will care for it until it is healthy enough to return to the wild.
