Students and teachers in four Nassau County school districts will have additional resources as they prepare for the upcoming school year, thanks to a new community investment.
The Westbury, Roosevelt, Hempstead and Uniondale school districts each received a $10,000 donation from Optimum through a partnership with the nonprofit organization DonorsChoose. The funding can be used to purchase classroom technology, school supplies or other materials that educators need to help students succeed.
"It's so important, especially as a community that's based on Long Island, to be able to give back and support families, students, teachers and schools," said Allison Aylward, Optimum's director of community affairs.
The donations are intended to help schools address classroom needs and ensure students have access to essential learning resources as the new academic year begins.
Students from the four districts were also invited to a News 12 backpack giveaway held at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Uniondale. The event provided students with backpacks and school supplies to help them start the school year prepared.
Optimum is a sister company of News 12.
