A Central Islip High School student who allegedly called in bogus threats in a high-tech way may face charges in two states.
Suffolk police say the 16-year-old used an Internet service that reads typed words over the phone to make a bomb threat on the school in October. They say he also used the Web site to prank call police in Brookfield, Connecticut, about an armed hostage situation. Investigators tracked the calls to the Web site and, later, to the teen's computer. He surrendered to police in Wednesday.
In Suffolk, the teen is charged with falsely reporting an incident. He was released into his parents' custody and is being processed in family court because of his age. Charges in Connecticut are expected, but unknown as of yet.
