New 9/11 memorial van paying tribute to NYPD detectives who died unveiled in Hauppauge
It pays tribute to Det. Joseph Vigiano and Det. Claude "Dan" Richards, who both died at the World Trade Center during the attacks.

A memorial van was unveiled Friday in Hauppauge to pay tribute to NYPD detectives who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
NYPD Detectives' Endowment Association President Scott Munro gathered with Hauppauge fire officials and NYPD members to reveal the van on Friday morning.
It pays tribute to detectives Joseph Vigiano and Claude "Dan" Richards, who both died at the World Trade Center during the attacks. The van also honors 79 NYPD detectives who died from 9/11-related illnesses in the nearly 25 years after the tragedy.
"I was there, I lost a lot of friends," Munro said. "I lost a lot of people."
The custom van took a year to make and was designed to honor the names and legacies of those who lost their lives.
On Tuesday, the van will deliver a wreath to ground zero ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attacks. The memorial will also be on display next Friday at the Hauppauge Fire Department's 9/11 service.
"Something special says to me, 'you know what Scott?, why don't you take the wreath and put it in this van and drive it over to ground zero,'" Munro said. "We're going to lay that wreath there and we're going to remember the 23 police officers that were killed that day."
