Police: Suspect wanted for allegedly breaking into car and threatening passerby in New Hyde Park
Authorities are searching for a man accused of breaking into a car and threatening the life of a passerby on Saturday in north New Hyde Park.
Detectives say a 25-year-old man was driving on Cellar Avenue just after 3 a.m. when he saw a man inside a BMW throwing items outside of the driver-side window while the vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road.
The 25-year-old drove around the block and witnessed the same man attempting to break into another car on Evans Street, according to authorities.
When he attempted to take a photograph of the suspect, the man appeared to point a black handgun at him. Authorities say the 25-year-old feared for his life and drove away.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact police.
