Police: Suspect arrested for drug possession assaults officer at Nassau University Medical Center

A suspect arrested for drug possession is accused of assaulting a police officer Saturday night at Nassau University Medical Center.

Authorities say 59-year-old Frank Sanders was taken to the hospital for assessment after being apprehended for possession of a controlled substance.

Hospital staff informed officers that the suspect was becoming aggressive with nurses, according to police.

Authorities say an officer who intervened was injured as Sanders resisted arrest. The officer was treated by medical personnel and later released.

Sanders now faces charges for second-degree assault, according to police.
