Police: Suffolk officer airlifted to hospital following Dix Hills crash

Police say it happened around 5 p.m. on the eastbound Long Island Expressway between exits 50 and 51.

A Suffolk County police officer was airlifted to a hospital Thursday following a two-vehicle crash in Dix Hills, police say.

Police say it happened around 5 p.m. on the eastbound Long Island Expressway between exits 50 and 51.

The officer was transported to a hospital by a Suffolk County police helicopter. The officer has been released from the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The other driver did not require medical attention.

The eastbound LIE was temporarily closed at Exit 51.
