Suffolk police say an NYPD lieutenant from Selden stabbed and shot his wife to death Monday, before turning the gun on himself.
Police say 48-year-old Francis Cole and his wife, Elena, were going through a divorce and got into an argument moments before the incident. Officers were called to 6 Savoy Court after receiving a call from the couple?s 18-year-old daughter that Elena Cole had been shot.
Suffolk Detective Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick says the daughter received injuries while attempting to stop her father from hurting her mother. Elena Cole?s 81-year-old mother was also home at the time, police say.
Francis Cole was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was later pronounced dead.
