A fast-moving fire tore through several businesses on Main Street in downtown Sayville Friday evening.

The flames were first spotted at around 5:40 p.m. at the former location of Cafe Joelle. The business was under renovation.

Sayville Fire Chief Craig Fazio says heavy wind caused the flames to jump east, igniting the vintage clothing store and barber shop next door. The second floor of the Sayville Running company was also damaged.

Firefighters from at least eight different departments responded. Nobody was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce is organizing a fire relief fund to help affected businesses get back on their feet.
